Things You Wish You NU
NULU is a kitchen knife designed to assist people with upper extremity impairments by using a unique circular cutting geometry. Unlike traditional knives that require a sawing motion and put strain on joints, NULU allows for smoother, more efficient cuts with less effort. This design makes it easier for individuals with limited mobility or strength to maintain independence in the kitchen.
NULU is ideal for seniors, people with arthritis and carpal tunnel syndrome, those recovering from injuries, and individuals with conditions like MS, Parkinson's, or joint fatigue. However, NULU is also great for anyone who wants an ergonomic and efficient cutting experience.
Is NULU easy to use for people without impairments?
Yes! While NULU is designed to assist people with physical limitations, its ergonomic design makes it a great tool for anyone looking to improve their cutting efficiency and reduce strain on their wrists, elbows, and shoulders.
How does the cutting geometry reduce joint stress?
NULU’s cutting geometry uses an arc design that minimizes the need for large upper extremity movements. By positioning the handle at the center of the cutting arc, the knife allows for more direct force transfer, reducing the strain on your wrist, elbow, and shoulder joints.
Force Transfer Geometry refers to the way NULU’s circular design transfers the user’s applied force more efficiently to the cutting surface. Traditional knives rely on a linear motion that can be inefficient and tiring. NULU’s geometry directs force along an arc, allowing for more precise control with less effort, which is especially important for people with limited strength or mobility.
Please see the individual specs on each product page, but be rest assured we use premium materials in our NULU, sheath, and stands.
Does NULU replace multiple knives in a typical knife set?Yes, NULU can replace several knives from a typical knife set. Its versatile design handles many everyday tasks like slicing, dicing, and chopping. However, we still recommend keeping a few specialty knives, such as a bread knife for slicing loaves and a large knife for cutting bigger objects like melons. For most kitchen tasks, though, NULU can take the place of chef’s knives, utility knives, and paring knives.
We have found that modern pull-through sharpeners are more user-friendly for maintaining the NULU blade’s unique geometry than a traditional whetstone. For this reason, we recommend exploring these types of sharpeners for easier and more effective results.
Determining when a child should or can use a knife is a parenting decision that is up to you. When you and your child are ready, NULU provides a better cutting experience by offering improved control and ease of use. It’s a great option to graduate to from a safety knife.
